A company supplying butane and propane - both in bottles and delivered to bulk tanks for central heating, throughout the southwest of England - needed a sales system to control its business. Since bottled gas is generally sold through dealers it is important to maintain records of stocks of gas bottles held by those dealers, and to record, charge, and refund deposits paid - as well as invoicing for the gas supplied. These records - in the bespoke system they developed jointly with Kenelm Systems - made a significant contribution to stock control, management information, and profitability.
On the bulk side, as a service to their customers, and to maximise the efficiency of their road tanker fleet, they needed to monitor each customer's usage of gas, to predict when they would need a top-up, and to plan each vehicle's route to achieve the maximum number of deliveries in the shortest possible mileage. The system they created with Kenelm Systems helped this company provide a valuable extra service to their own customers, while also maximising the productivity of their drivers and road tankers - an expensive asset.
