The quarrying and supply of sand and gravel, and the operation of landfill sites, can involve a company's own vehicles, subcontract hauliers, and the vehicles belonging to customers collecting from or delivering to the site. A record needs to be kept of each vehicle involved, and its tare weight taken regularly on the weighbridge. The loaded vehicle then needs to be weighed on the same weighbridge and an invoice for its contents produced. At the same time the customer must be monitored to ensure that his credit limit has not been exceeded, and the activities of subcontract hauliers need to be recorded so that they can be paid for their services.
These multiple steps, and the consolidation of information, called for Kenelm System's analysis and design expertise, as well as their ability to take a complex problem, design a workable solution and deliver a system to users that is intuitive and consequently rapidly adopted.
In conjunction with a group owning both sand and gravel quarries and landfill sites - and having a major landfill contract with a county council - Kenelm Systems has developed a system to cover all of these functions, linked to the Avery "Weight for Windows" software package to capture weighbridge data. The application also produces extensive management reports (for both the company and its customers) and online enquiries, as well as the details required by HMRC for aggregate and landfill tax purposes.
"I am pleased to say that the new facilities were implemented on time, with minimal disruption to our day-to day processing, and to the satisfaction of both the County Council and HM Customs and Excise."
